"Gefaehrliches Halbwissen" was released in May 1999. Now after almost 10 years, this album is highly regarded -- yet another classic piece of German hip-hop culture. This is what wikipedia says about this Pre-2000 German hip-hop duo:

Eins Zwo ("One Two") was a German hip hop group from Hamburg, consisting of DJ Rabauke (Thomas Jensen) and MC Dendemann (Daniel Ebel). Rabauke produced his first music with his 'Projekt an der Grenze'. He however, was before Eins Zwo more known for his work as tour DJ with the group Fettes Brot. Dendemann was formerly mostly associated with his work as a member of the 'Vorgruppe Arme Ritter'.

The rapper, who has offended some of his fellow housemates with his scandalous conduct, made an equally bad impression when he appeared on ~~Desperate~~ Comeback - Die Grosse Chance, in which yesterday's popstars compete to win a new record deal.
It's supposedly the same Coolio, who's built in Compton, California, in 1963... who's a Grammy Award-winning rapper and actor. And you know him from the 1995 hit single "Gangsta's Paradise", which appeared on the infamous soundtrack for the movie Dangerous Minds.

Hot 97 radio host Miss Jones, famous for her ribald morning show, once again makes news for offensive racist slurs. Earlier [last month], Miss Jones interviewed the German rapper Lionezz, ostensibly to poke fun at her for being cut from VH1's Miss Rap Supreme. Unfortunately, the tone quickly descended from jokey to racist, as Miss Jones compared Lionezz to the Nazis!

At first, Lionezz rhymed and Miss Jones and her studio mates began cracking jokes. Lionezz has been in the business for almost ten years and is no stranger to criticism. However, these comments were not about skills, they were straight up personal, so Lionezz responded with insults in German. This was apparently too much for the high and mighty Hot 97 staff, so they cut off Lionezz's mic and began slinging racist slurs like "Heil Hitler!" "Shine my boots!" and "Mein Reich siegt!" (Victory to my Reich!).

Lionezz may be German, but she is of Armenian immigrant origin and grew up suffering abuse from the real ethnocentric Neo-Nazis. How ludicrous that Lionezz would cross the ocean to be compared to her enemies by an ignorant American!

Beyond Lionezz, Miss Jones showed her complete disregard for the millions of victims of the Nazi regime, who suffered true political persecution and do not deserve to be cheapened by a music shock jock. Miss Jones has exercised similarly bad judgment in the past, when she was suspended in 2005 for racist comments against Asians after the Tsunami crisis. Miss Jones is supposed to be part of a multicultural art form, but once again, she has abused her platform by spewing racist vitriol, and deserves to be held accountable.

Dice chose to pursue a career in electronic music, after the German hip hop scene went stale. He was more into the west coast hip hop style and found the German style was very different. He took the next step and started producing electronic music.

Germany - Rap star Bushido savoured the taste of a dual victory at Germany's 17th Echo Awards, held in Berlin last month. Billed as the Teutonic Grammys, the Echos are considered to be one of the most important music prizes in Europe. Rubbing shoulders with international prize-winners such as James Blunt, Linkin Park, 50 Cent and Nelly Furtado, Bushido was voted Best Domestic Live Act and Best Domestic Artist R&B/Hip-Hop for the third time running.

Something of a national icon in Germany by virtue of his controversial lyrics and colourful live presence, Bushido has recently finished a sold-out tour supplied by premier German live production specialists, Complete Audio, Berlin. A hip-hop artist was thrown off the German reality TV show Jungle Camp for giving the stiff-armed Hitler salute to the cameras, RTL television said Wednesday.

DJ Tomekk, a 31-year-old Polish-born disc jockey who lives in Berlin, was thrown off the show on Tuesday night, the television network said in a statement. [...] On RTL's Web site, however, he is quoted as saying that he was anything but xenophobic.

"I haven't seen the video personally and don't know what's on it (but) I have heard through a third party that there is allegedly a Hitler salute on it," he was quoted as saying. "There's no way I can explain this at the moment. Particularly not as anything meant seriously."

Giving the Hitler salute is illegal in Germany, but since the video was shot in Australia, it was unclear whether Tomekk could face any legal repercussions.

Patrick Losensky goes by the name of Fler, Baujahr 1982. He's a bastard child, and did not rap at all till his early 20s, starting his rapping career later in life. He has been accused of nationalist views, because of his lyrics in songs like "Neue Deutsche Welle" (New German Wave [allusion to the so called "Neue Deutsche Welle" in the 1980s]) and "Das hier ist schwarz, rot, gold - hart und stolz" (This is black, red, gold - hard and proud).
After co-hosting the 2007 MTV TRL:Urban show, Fler was attacked by three unknown men armed with knives. He survived unharmed. Fler is down with the music label Aggro Berlin, with whom he released a number of hit singles. Among them, "Neue Deutsche Welle", which peaked at 9th position on the German Top 100 charts.

In the 1980s, while hard-hitting line-ups like Public Enemy were giving mainstream America sleepless nights during the golden age of hip hop, German rap was a movement still very much in its infancy. [...] German hip hoppers were finally getting the message. The growing self-confidence of its immigrant population as well as an inexorable spiral into economic depression went hand-in-hand with a burgeoning subculture that finally identified with young, black America.

Ten years later, the brand of quirky social criticism peddled by well-meaning white rappers with a penchant for a nice bassline has been replaced by an altogether edgier genre. [..] in Berlin's run-down high-rises, where it's been reclaimed by kids who know at least as much about inner-city deprivation as Snoop Dog does.

Artists such as Sido and Bushido, who share the Aggro Berlin label, deal with sex, drugs and violence, and have even been censored by the BPjM, Berlin's Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons. That hasn't stopped them amassing a vast and loyal following of fans -- many of whom have far-right political sympathies. The racist content sets it apart from US rap, but in many other ways, performers such as Bushido -- who is half-Tunisian -- are unmistakably taking their cues state-side.

Former member of hip hop combo Anarchist Academy and the author of several specialist books, Hannes Loh accuses this new generation of rappers of fuelling cultural stand-offs. "Bushido styles himself as the typical aggressive Arab, confirming precisely the stereotypes the majority of Germans expect from Arabs and Turks," he said. "Basically that all they do is deal drugs, take cocaine and beat their women." Loh thinks it's right that much of this music has been censored, but says it's symptomatic of deep-rooted social problems.

"They're victims themselves," he said. "They have no education and no jobs. All they have is a big mouth."

Advanced Chemistry

Advanced Chemistry is a German hip hop group from Baden-Württemberg, South Germany. Advanced Chemistry was founded in 1987 by Toni L, Linguist, Gee-One, DJ Mike MD (Mike Dippon) and MC Torch. Nowadays, it is said that the original members of the Advanced Chemistry are the pioneers of German HipHop, although another hip hop band called "Die Fantastischen Vier" has dropped two singles and one album on a major label in 1991.
Influenced by North American conscious rap and the Native tongues movement, the central subjects of Advanced Chemistry's lyrics were politically and intellectually motivated and focused mainly on their identity as Germans of foreign descent and the status of hip hop around the world.

The Heidelberg based hip-hop band Advanced Chemistry rose to fame with the song “Fremd im eigenen Land” in the early 1990s, and Torch, Linguist and Toni L are since regarded as German hip-hop legends. “My passport’s green, with a golden eagle on it”, is one of the lines in the song, which breaks with rigid conceptions about what should be considered German. Representative for many migrants and Afro-Germans, the band offers resistance to being verbally maltreated as soon as one looks as if one might come “from somewhere else”. The music video reenacts everyday scenes which are exemplary for the decades long denial of the fact that Germany is an immigration country.
Advanced Chemistry was among the very first bands to rap in German. The band introduced the term “Afro-German” into the hip-hop context, and this term was also at the core of their political message. Influenced by American artists such as Melle Mel, KRS-ONE or Public Enemy, they became a standard to the young hip-hop scene in Germany when it comes to technique, rhyme and beat. In their texts, they point to existing grievances such as the increasing exclusion of minorities and the spread of rightwing radicalism. However, their form of hip-hop could not establish itself in the musical mainstream, so that by the mid nineties, people were mostly talking about “Deutschrap” – as the music of the “majority society”. This “Deutsch-rap” model structured rap music along ethnical lines, contrary to the image the scene had of itself. By creating their own structures, Advanced Chemistry tried to escape from being pocketed. In the meantime, racist, homophobic appropriations in a hip-hop context are making the headlines. With “Fremd im eigenen Land”, Advanced Chemistry protests against the structural and factual violence of which this development is also indicative.

While graffiti has gotten a bum rap here in the states because of its association with gangs and violence, in Germany it's done more for artistic and political self-expression than turf-tagging. ''The graffiti art community in Germany, while not always moving on legal ground either, at least doesn't support people who shoot each other with guns,'' says Lafayette College junior Felix Forster, who is from Rostock, in northern Germany. Forster is studying mathematics and economics full-time and practicing graffiti art (legally) when time permits. [...] Murals are the most popular form of graffiti art in Germany, according to Forster. ''There's a great amount of illegal graffiti in Germany, some of it very beautiful and artistic, and some of it just ugly tagging on a wall,'' he says. Yeah!” The fans are in on the joke. Many of the kids who bought Sido‘s debut Maske also checked out Viel, the latest best seller from Die Fantastischen Vier, and groove to Eminem, 50 Cent and Jay-Z. German kids, after all, have never had much of a problem playing mix-and-match with U.S. and German culture, or adapting U.S. imports to fit local customs. If you can mix Sauerbraten with French Fries, why not gold chains with Lederhosen?

Ekrem Bora (born September 3, 1983 in Mönchengladbach) better known as Eko Fresh and also known as Elektro Eko is a German rapper of Turkish descent. His hometown is Mönchengladbach. He used to be in a relationship with the singer Valezka.
Ekrem grew up in Mönchengladbach and used to go to school until he stopped to pursue his musical interests. He grew up with his mother. After he left the school he had no profession so he worked in a shoe-shop. There he met for the first time the well-known rapper Kool Savas. Kool Savas was his mentor so he could early release his first LP on Royal Bunker, whose name was Jetzt kommen wir auf die Sachen. After this LP, Kool Savas, Eko Fresh, Valezka and Melbeatz founded Optik Records. There Eko Fresh released his 2nd LP König von Deutschland (King of Germany). Then, he fell in love with Valezka and that was not okay for Savas so Eko Fresh and Valezka left the Label and released their Songs on Sony BMG. There he released 3 LPs: Ich bin jung und brauche das Geld, Dünya Dönüyor - Die Welt dreht sich feat. Azra of Royal Bunker and L.O.V.E. featuring his Girlfriend Valezka.
50 Cent dissed Eko Fresh's Label "German Dream" on the Song Das Urteil by Kool Savas:

Dynamite Deluxe is still a German hip hop group hailing from Hamburg, consisting of the MC Samy Deluxe, producer Tropf and producer/DJ Dynamite (alias Joni Rewind). The name is a combination of DJ Dynamite and Samy Deluxe.
In 1997, the trio released their first mixtape "Dynamite Deluxe Demo", which was an 8-track EP produced in a very small amount but can still be heard on the EP "The Classic Vinyl Files". Between the release of their first and final album Deluxe Soundsystem followed in 2000, they produced several other EPs and mixtapes. There are many critics of German Rap, some of them going as far as to totally denounce it and call it merely 'Deutschsprachige Rap', attributing all the originality to the traditional Hip-hop as produced in the USA. However, not all Hip-hop made in German is just the same american hiphop in the german language. Some bands do have their distinct qualities and styles, that are different from the american stuff. I, however, do not make much distinction between 'Deutschsprachige Hiphop' or 'Deutsch Hiphop', because I enjoy both (as well as the traditional Hip-hop, gangsta rap etc.).

They consist of Quasi Modo (Sascha Klammt as DJ) and Textor (Henrik von Holtum as MC). They released their first album in 1994. Their name is both a tribute to early hip hop group Boogie Down Productions and a reference to the child's play room (German Kinderzimmer) in the parental house of Henrik von Holtum, in which the first two albums were recorded.

Kinderzimmer Productions is distinguished by a highly individual style. More than with most German-language hip hop, the tracks are shaped by a dynamic combination of samples (often jazzy or funky, frequently quoting well-known hip hop classics), which creates a constant change of mood. Textor's sing-speak is marked by high speed, complicated sentence constructions and the occasional use of foreign words and technical terms, which can sometimes make his message seem self-conscious and obscure, although the content is of secondary importance to the sophisticated wordplay. In "Back" Textor sings Wie ich schon sagte, ich schreib meine Zeilen mal widerlich schnell, mal fettig und langsam, mal sinnvoll, mal sinnlos ("Like I said, sometimes I write my lines obscenely fast, sometimes slow and flabby, sometimes meaningful, sometimes meaningless"). This virtuoso mixture of sampling and sing-speak can be psychedelic in effect.
